Counterweight Records' DJ Devastate and synth guru, Segerfalk recently made the trip to Analog Sweden’s studio, to breathe new life into Marvin’s time honored classic, "Heard It Through The Grapevine.” The concept of classic meets contemporary is magnified with verses contributed by emcees Joe Lefty and Chapee, the latter of which who recently dropped his debut solo LP, Mode7ty, produced by Tommy Black, who's sounds you may already be familiar with on “Institutionallized, off Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly LP. Independent label Counterweight Records has lots more in store for 2016. This spring you’ll hear more from Chapee, along with beatsmith Max I Million, and his anticipated mixtape sequel, The Maxtape 2. Devastate started as a DJ in the late nineties and has already released records with legends like Kutmasta Kurt and Masta Ace. Inspired by classic boom-bap hip hop, funk and jazz, he launched his label Counterweight last year in order to showcase fresh music with the emphasis on soulful sounds to PROMOTE young and skilled newcomers. For Carhartt WIP Radio he has prepared a show that features unreleased and upcoming Counterweight tracks including exclusive tracks from producers like Max I Million, Suff Daddy and DJ Large, back catalogue releases from himself as well as some remixes from back in the day. His mix showcases many different genres, from smooth instrumentals and jazz, to more classic hip hop, giving the listener a slice of the Counterweight sound and what to expect in the future. Stevie Wonder - Superstition (DJ Devastate & Segerfalk Remix)

"Today we celebrate the 63rd birthday of one of the most ingenious and influential artists of the late 20th century. Mr. Stevland, Hardaway Judkins a.k.a Stevie Wonder. Defining multi-talent in music field, with a vibrant career that has spanned over fifty years. Stevie’s achievements will without a doubt remain an inspiration for many generations to come.

To celebrate this day, DJ Devastate (Swedish DJ and producer) teams up with Fredrik Segerfalk (Analog Sweden) to offer an interpretation of Stevie’s most iconic song "Superstition”. The original track (released in October 1972) deals with the topic of superstitions and includes one of the most funky clavinet riffs of all time (played on the Hohner Clavinet C).

Devastate & Segerfalk reworks the track into a more moderns, rhythm based, bass-heavy anthem topped with some smooth Rhodes piano. The remix is a tribute to Stevie, reworked with respect, to honour the timeless original. Enjoy Devastate & Segerfalk’s production overhaul (it’s a free download). KnoIota Ft. Ed O.G & Jaysaun - Boston Blocks (Produced by DJ Devastate)

Back in 2007 I was spending a afternoon with DJ Create waiting on Maylay Sparks to show up to the studio. Maylay is usually travelling from somewhere so he was late. When he showed up he came straight from Christiania by car, and he had two dudes with him. One of the guys was a New Jersey rapper called KnoIota. That night Maylay Sparks and KnoIota recorded on one of DJ Create’s beats, and from what I remember the track came out dope…

Ever since then we have been cool. Today KnoIota is finally dropping his debut album called “Kno Now Or Never”! He has been working on this album for quite some time and now it’s finally here. I have produced 5 tracks on this album…

When working with KnoIota on this album I also had the privilege to hook up with a bunch of dope 
U.S rappers like: Ed O.G, Jaysaun, Akrobatik, Critical, Termanology, Reks, J-Ro & StreetMass.
