PerfectTiming Label 800
We're pleased to release a Record Store Day exclusive version of “Perfect Timing”in limited-edition blue vinyl.
The track is led by hip-hop architect CL Smooth, who delivers his mission statement as soon as he touches the mic: “I’m here to hit ‘em with that sure-to-be-a-classic.” He drives that point home with sincere, sharp rhymes about both his legacy in the game and his future plans to keep creating. Given that this is the man who released Mecca And The Soul Brother and The Main Ingredientalongside Boom bap pioneer Pete Rock, it’s safe to say hip-hop needs CL Smooth.
Riding shotgun is Brooklyn-based indie-rap stalwart Skyzoo, who complements his host with poignant and passionate bars. The two prove to be a formidable team, especially with Australian producer M-Phazes behind the boards. His warm, sample-fueled instrumental adds depth to what’s proven to be one of the finest cuts in Coalmine’s library of sometimes-slept-on gems.
The artwork was crafted by Frank “DJ Concept” DeMaria, who delivers a strong shot of nostalgia with his design. On the cover, you have a piece that call to mind CL Smooth & Pete Rock’s classic Mecca And The Soul Brother, while the donuts pay homage to the old-school Elektra Records layout.

The rework from Sweden’s Max I Million is a smooth excursion that boasts an airtight groove and razor sharp cuts from DJ Devastate that blend to create a patchwork of lines from rap favorites like Common‘s “6th Sense” and the Soundbombing standout “1-9-9-9.”Perfectly timed and packed to the gills with warm chords and deep bass, the remix is a great companion to the exclusive vinyl release, which features the original 2008 single and instrumental.

This is Marvin. This is Soul. You didn't hear it through the grapevine—you heard it flowing out the speakers of your dad’s record player. But as time passes, and seasons change, music is often reincarnated into new forms, based on old recipes.
32 years after Marvin Gaye’s tragic passing death, we shed a tear and celebrate his life with this refreshing tribute, just in time for what would have been The Prince of Soul’s 77th birthday.
Counterweight Records' DJ Devastate and synth guru, Segerfalk recently made the trip to Analog Sweden’s studio, to breathe new life into Marvin’s time honored classic, "Heard It Through The Grapevine.” The concept of classic meets contemporary is magnified with verses contributed by emcees Joe Lefty and Chapee, the latter of which who recently dropped his debut solo LP, Mode7ty, produced by Tommy Black, who's sounds you may already be familiar with on “Institutionallized, off Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly LP.
Independent label Counterweight Records has lots more in store for 2016. This spring you’ll hear more from Chapee, along with beatsmith Max I Million, and his anticipated mixtape sequel, The Maxtape 2. But in the meantime, we leave you with the question: "Do You Cry,”a token of gratitude to Marvin Gaye and his unforgettable legacy.

About Seventy Nine:

SeventyNine 800

Since debuting nearly 20 years ago, Planet Asia has continued to cement himself as one of the best to ever touch the mic. And that’s become especially apparent these past few years as the Fresno, Calif. rapper has dropped one distinguished project after the next. That trend only continues with Seventy Nine, a tightly constructed and ambitious new concept album from Planet Asia and Long Island producer, DJ Concept.
Their collective effort helped structure the framework heard throughout Seventy Nine, which is that of a classic ‘79 Seville that narrates their journey. Each track crackles and fades into the next like you’re moving the radio dial, which allows for the smooth transitions within the album (click here to read full press release).

Tracklist:

01. Seventy Nine (Intro) [feat. DJ Revolution]
02. Valuable Metals (feat. DJ Pain 1)
03. The Expo (feat. TriState)
04. International (feat. Marvelous Mag)
05. This is Fresno (Interlude)
